This hand stitched wholecloth quilt is typical of Welsh quilts from the Carmarthenshire area of Wales in the early to mid 20th century. Double sided with a lovely peachy pink floral design one one side and a lighter floral with green on the other. They appear to have run out of pink material and have inserted a block of the reverse material, see photo, this only adds to its charm. The design is intricate with a central medallion. We are unsure of the filling but it is likely to be a wool or wool and cotton batting.
The condition is very good for its age. There is very little fading. There is a small amount of wear to the edges. We prefer to leave them in original condition rather than add an edging strip.
Our vintage quilts and blankets are thoroughly hand laundered by us and then dried outdoors so they also have a good airing and a dose of Welsh sunshine.
The price includes UK P&P. We can ship this product to the USA and most parts of Western Europe. Please contact us for a quote. We always try and keep our postage costs as low as possible
This is a genuine piece of Welsh heritage and quite special. The amount of work that has gone into it is amazing. Welsh quilts have become collectors pieces, thanks mainly to the museum of Welsh life who recognised their importance. We recommend purchasing Jen Jones excellent book on the history of Welsh quilts to find out more.
