1950s 'carthen' - a Welsh fringed blanket used as a bed cover, in a zingy pink and berry colourway - very pretty. This one is double bed sized and in excellent vintage condition with no holes or repairs. The edge stitching is intact and the fringe (which is on two sides) is good. Made by Cwmgwili Mill in Carmarthenshire. We have laundered it prior to putting it for sale.
Traditionally given as wedding gifts in the early to mid 20th century, Welsh blankets are totally on trend and have come out of the bedroom into more general living areas. use them as throws on sofas and chairs. Don't put them in a cupboard, they are far too pretty - fold and pile them for easily accessible colourful comfort on chilly evenings or when party guests dont make it back home, take them on picnics and down the beach. You can even hang them on the wall (the thicker ones help insulate against noise).
This blanket comes in a plaid design with a zingy pink and berry colourway. There is no label (many of the blankets we source locally have no labels as they were bought direct from the mill or were collected by workers) but each different woolen mill had its own design - the zig zag stripes on this one are typical of Cwmgwili.
The price includes UK P&P.
